Honest Door started with an Excel file. The file simply listed properties in the Edmonton area, and the date and sale price of their last transaction. Entrepreneur Dan Belos asked me to work on an application prototype to retrieve real estate sales data accessible to regular home-buyers.
I started by mapping the Excel data into MongoDB and building an API to serve it. I also built a frontend (based on JavaScript and MapBox) that showed a detailed map of the Edmonton area down to rooflines. This app served as a prototype that convinced investors to get Honest Door off the ground. Dan now runs Honest Door full-time, the company was featured on Global News and CBC.
